Meet our heroes

Thank you to everyone who has helped to raise vital funds over the years. Here are just a few of the many heroes who help to make a difference.

Katie Tonks

Raised over £600

Six year old Katie Tonks, daughter of Fidgets’ hair salon owner in Whitley Bay, raised over £600 by cutting off her hair to create a wig for young cancer patients. Inspired by a TV advert of a child who had lost their hair through the disease, the decision was made for Katie to go for the chop on 30th September 2015 to coincide with Children’s Cancer Awareness month.

Whitley Women Community Choir

Raised over £1000

Over 100 women from the Whitley Women Community Choir raised over £1000 by taking part in a five mile singing walk in July 2015.

Amy Spence Walkers

Raised over £5000

Around 30 walkers, including friends and family, took part in a 14 mile walks from the RVI to Sacriston organised by 32-year-old Amy Sharp. Amy was inspired to organise the walk – which, coupled with cash donations and a raffle, raised almost £5,000 – as part of her family’s ongoing fundraising efforts. Amy, has been fundraising for the NECCR with her family since 2010, after her nephew, Louis, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma aged just two and a half. Now aged nine, he has made a full recovery and has recently been given the five year all-clear.

Whickham Waddle

Raised over £2000

Children, aged between three and five, came together from Front Street Primary School, Swalwell Primary School and Rose Villa Day Nursery to take part in the fourth annual ‘Whickham Waddle’ in

June 2015, raising over £2000. Each child was sponsored to take part in the walk through the village, which was organised in memory of former pupil Katie Slyderink who passed away from an aggressive form of brain tumour in December 2012.
