We need your support now more than ever

Funding of children’s cancer research is under huge threat.

In what would usually be an exciting and very busy lead up to the three key event dates in our calendar, Team NECCR are instead working remotely on new plans to fill the huge fundraising gaps created by COVID-19. Our events which are the major sources of income for the year have now been postponed or cancelled, and there is much uncertainty around when life will return to normal…
so for now we have to do things a little bit differently!

Thankfully we have been given a helping hand from the organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the country who have come together to create The 2.6 Challenge. We are delighted to be joining thousands of others in the UK charity sector as we try to look at new ways of fundraising and engaging with our fantastic supporters.

The 2.6 Challenge, which launches on Sunday 26 April is asking the UK public to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to their chosen charity to help Save the UK’s Charities via twopointsixchallenge.co.uk

Get involved

The brilliant news is that the 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone and everyone who is keen to participate. The only ‘rules’ are that your chosen activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing. Please remember to stay safe to protect our NHS.

Team NECCR would like to encourage you to take part in the 2.6 Challenge at any time and on any day(s) that suits you/your family between Sunday 26th April and Sunday 17th May 2020, (when our Children’s Cancer Run, Newcastle event was due to be staged.)

There are two options to choose from to help us raise funds. Along with taking part in your personal challenge, you can either:

Donate an amount of money to North of England Children’s Cancer Research that you feel you can afford to spend at the moment; or
Raise money through sponsorship for North of England Children’s Cancer Research if you think you have friends, relatives, colleagues or other associates that you feel happy to approach.

Top tip: When searching for our charity on the JustGiving campaign link, enter ‘North of England Children’s Cancer Research’ rather than ‘NECCR’ to find us.

Some ideas from our team

Run a garden marathon

Why not run 26 miles over 2.6 weeks (approx. 18 days) in your own garden? Or set up an obstacle course and get the whole family involved!

Take your dog for 26 different walks

If one of your family members is of the four-legged variety that barks and needs to be walked several times a day, how about taking 26 different local routes when going for walkies over the next few weeks?

Fun for all kids, big and small

For all budding actors! If you have a creative streak, a dressing up box and/or face paints available, create 2.6 or 26 different characters and give them names and special powers. Get the whole family involved and spend some time in character. There's no better time than now to be a kid again and have a tea party with the Mad Hatter or to be a crime-bustin' superhero, saving the planet!
