Children’s Cancer Run

On-line entries for the 2017 run are open until midnight on 16th May. After this time you can take part by registering on the day between 9am and 11.30am. Please simply make your way to the racecourse and head to the Information Point to register.

Car Parking

If you are driving to the Children’s Cancer Run please use the car park you have been allocated. Car parking allocation details are listed on the letter enclosed in your run pack and are one of the following:

Due to the large volume of traffic accessing Newcastle Racecourse on the morning of the Children’s Cancer Run it is likely that it will take longer for you to get to the event than it would on a regular Sunday morning. Please allow plenty of time to arrive before your run start time.

IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION

Due to several roadwork projects taking place within the Newcastle area over the date of the Children’s Cancer Run detailed routes have been designed in conjunction with the event traffic management team with the aim of minimising unnecessary traffic congestion for our runners on event day. Please note that they may not be the shortest distance or the route that your Sat Nav suggests you go.

Directions

From the North (A1)

To Car Park B and Quorum Park & Ride: Leave the A1 at Junction 80, signposted Tyne Tunnel – A19 and Cramlington, Blyth, Ashington (A189). At the roundabout take the 3rd junction onto the A19 south towards the Tyne Tunnel. At the next roundabout take the 4th exit onto the A189 towards Newcastle (East). Staying on the A189, at the next roundabout take the 3rd exit towards Killingworth and Newcastle. Go straight across the next roundabout onto the A189 towards Newcastle.

  • For Car Park B take the 3rd exit at the next roundabout and head onto Great Lime Road. Turn left into Newcastle Racecourse and follow the directions of the event steward team.
  • For Quorum Park & Ride take the 2nd exit at the next roundabout staying on the A189 towards Newcastle. At the next roundabout (West Moor) take the 2nd exit onto the A188 towards Newcastle (East). At the next roundabout (Business Parks) take the 1st exit into Quorum Business Park. Passing the Greggs outlet on your right take the 3rd exit at the mini roundabout into the Q7 car park next to Greggs House. See ‘Park & Ride Information’ for more details.

To Sage Park & Ride (Newcastle Great Park): Leave the A1 at Junction 79 for Wide Open A1056, Newcastle (North) (B1318) and Gosforth Park. Follow the signs for Park and Ride Great Park. See ‘Park & Ride Information’ for more details.

From the East (A19)

To Car Park B and Quorum Park & Ride: Leave the A19 at the Killingworth A1056 and Seghill B1322 junction. Turn left onto Killingworth Way (A1056). At the 1st and 2nd roundabouts go straight across taking the 2nd exits towards Wide Open (A1054) and Gosforth Park. At the 3rd roundabout take the 1st exit towards Newcastle A189.

  • For Car Park B take the 3rd exit at the next roundabout and head onto Great Lime Road. Turn left into Newcastle Racecourse and follow the directions of the event stewards.
  • For Quorum Park & Ride take the 2nd exit at the next roundabout staying on the A189 towards Newcastle. At the next roundabout (West Moor) take the 2nd exit onto the A188 towards Newcastle (East). From the South and West (A1)

To Car Park A: Leave the A1 at Junction 79 for Wide Open, Killingworth A1056, Gosforth (B1318) and Great Park. Stay in the right hand lanes towards Wide Open, Killingworth A1056 and Gosforth (B1318). Get into the middle lanes at the motorway roundabout and take the 2nd exit towards Wide Open, Killingworth A1056 and Gosforth Park. At the next roundabout take the 4th exit onto the B1318 towards City North, Gosforth and Gosforth Park. Turn left into Newcastle Racecourse and follow the directions of the event stewards.

To Sage Park & Ride (Newcastle Great Park): Leave the A1 at Junction 79, for Wide Open, Killingworth A1056, Gosforth (B1318) and Great Park. Stay in the left hand lanes for Great Park. Turn left onto Great Parkway and follow the directional signage for Park and Ride. See ‘Park & Ride Information’ for more details.

From the South (Newcastle City Centre, A167(M) )

To Car Park A: Take the Gosforth exit on the A167(M) onto the Great North Road (B1318). At the Blue House Roundabout take the 2nd exit towards Gosforth. Continue along Gosforth High Street (B1318) towards the A1 past Regent Centre Metro Station on the left. At the 1st roundabout take the 2nd exit towards Wide Open and Killingworth (A1056), North & South (A1) and Gosforth Park. Continue straight over the mini roundabout. In the middle lane at the traffic lights continue straight on the B1318 then get into the left hand lane to turn off immediately onto the A1056 signposted to Gosforth Park. Stay in the left hand lane and veer left after crossing the motorway bridge. Take the 1st right turn into Newcastle Racecourse.

Park & ride information

In an effort to ease traffic flow in and around Gosforth Park, we have made improvements to our Park & Ride system with the help from our new Transport Partner, Stagecoach North East.

The Park & Ride operates as follows:

WESTSIDE of Gosforth Park will operate from Sage Park & Ride (Great Park) which is 1 mile from Newcastle Racecourse and takes approx. 5 to 10 minutes to get to the drop off point.

EASTSIDE of Gosforth Park (Wyevale Garden Centre side) will operate from Quorum Business Park (on Benton Lane close to Four Lane Ends) which is 1 mile away from Newcastle Racecourse and takes approx. 5 to 10 minutes to get to the drop off point.

This is a free park and ride facility for the Children’s Cancer Run in conjunction with Stagecoach North East, Newcastle Great Park and Quorum Business Park.

Stagecoach and Metro shuttle services

In an effort to ease traffic flow in and around Gosforth Park, our new Transport Partner, Stagecoach North East, will also be providing a Metro Shuttle bus service from Four Lane Ends and Regent Centre Metro stations throughout the day.

A reduced fare system will be operating on this service £2 for return adults and £1 return for children
